There are A LOT of possible game engines that you can use to build your game. so how do you know which engine is the best one for you and your project? Well, there are certain criteria that you
need to consider when choosing a game engine. Here are a couple of steps that will help you select the perfect game engine for you.
Step 1: The Genre
you need to completely understand your game. You need to know more then just the basic storyline. Are you planning on creating a first person shooter. Are you creating a 2D or a 3D game. Certain engines can handle both but even these tend to have a specialty in one or the other.
Step 2: Determine the Platform
you need to figure out if your game will be played on mobile, PC, Mac, Playstation, XBox, etc. There are many platforms out there and certain game engines won’t let you publish your game to all of them
you need to think this through before selecting your engine.
step 3: choose Language
What programming language are you going to use for your game? Many game engines use of a variety of languages but make sure that the one you choose is able to handle your language of choice.
Step 4: the Budget
What is your budget for this project? Many game engines will have a free package with limited features as well as feature-rich packages that come with a price tag. Thats why its always important to plan. Regardless of the engine that you select, look at this as a learning experience and have fun with it.
